L’Oréal looks set to buy spa and skincare brands Decléor and Carita, after being granted exclusive negotiation rights by their current owner, Japanese beauty group Shiseido. The hair, skincare and cosmetics giant has made Shiseido a US$315m (£195m) offer for the two brands.
An Verhulst-Santos, president of the professional products division at L’Oréal, said: “This is a wonderful opportunity for our division to become a major player in the strategic professional beauty market. Decléor and Carita’s growth perspectives are very promising.”
Decléor and Carita generated a combined annual turnover of US$137m (£85m) in 2012. Negotiations are now in the final stages, with L’Oréal commenting that an agreement could be signed in the next two weeks.
Aromatherapy skincare brand Decléor was established in 1974, while Carita was set up by sisters Maria and Rosy Carita in 1945.
